Planning, Managing and Policing Hospitality Zones - December 6-9, 2006 - Chicago

Mobile Workshops

Chicago will provide the backdrop for three distinct focused discussions about current and emerging issues as districts evolve. You'll be transported on Friday on a guided box lunch bus tour to the various locations, where there will be a keynote speaker, local representatives and opportunity for discussion and tour of the area. You'll return to the historic Excalibur night club for a panel presentation and discussion with representatives from each and a showcase of the central district.

Magnet Projects Heritage Entertainment Split-use Districts

Not only do sport stadiums, convention centers, downtown malls, and high rise residential units bring thousands of people to a city, they are also a magnet for dining and entertainment establishments.

Segregated neighborhoods of the early and mid twentieth century served as the platform for the development of American music – jazz, gospel and blues – and formed a unique network for performers. Today many of these neighborhoods are making a comeback by building upon their music heritage.

The convergence of dining, entertainment and residential development with increasing retirement and youth demographics challenge cities to manage districts with equal or more activity after 10pm.
