Planning, Managing and Policing Hospitality Zones - December 6-9, 2006 - Chicago

Changing Role of State Regulatory Agencies
Saturday, December 9 - 8:45-10:15 am

Planning, managing and policing hospitality zones relies upon a clear and open communication between local interest groups and state alcoholic beverage regulatory agencies. The 21st amendment to the U.S. Constitution established the state role for licensing and regulating alcoholic beverage businesses. Thus, the structure of these agencies, and the roles, responsibilities and relationship to local authorities varies from state to state.

This roundtable panel will present observations by two nationally recognized attorneys with expertise on state alcoholic beverage regulations. They will present their view on the "best practices" of state alcohol regulatory agencies working with local government and businesses to maximize opportunity for development while minimizing risk to public safety. As our nation approaches the century anniversary of prohibition, they will seek to clarify how regulations have kept pace with changes in on-premise dining and entertainment establishments, as well as identify emerging challenges requiring more focused strategies.
